Hambleton is a small village lying to the West of Selby and on the edge of the YO8 postcode.  With a population of close to 2000 residents it is one of the larger and most popular villages to choose to buy a home and settle in, and there are plenty of reasons why.

If you have a young family, there is a Mother and Baby Group held in the Village hall on Wednesday mornings, which has been running for years.  The Hall is quite a hub for the community and provides the location for lots of different village activities.

There is also a ‘good’ primary school, which has an Ofsted rating 2 following its last inspection in January 2017.  The school facilities are also used for after school activities such as Rainbows and Brownies.

A good place for all to meet new people is St. Mary’s Church where Sunday Services and coffee mornings are held.

Hambleton is also fortunate that it has a couple of pubs, The Red Lion and The Owl Hotel.

The Red Lion hosts live entertainment, quiz nights, karaoke and bingo evenings.  The don’t serve food but they do have Mr C’s Fish and Chip Shop van coming round on Friday tea-times.

The Owl Hotel is a Marston’s Inn and as the name suggests offers overnight accommodation, function rooms and food.  There is a beer garden and my personal favourite – they allow dogs entry.

There is a convenience store on the Main Road along with an interior design/furniture store.

There is also a garage offering auto repairs, MOTs and car washing services.

You can also find a hairdressers on Station Road.

Hambleton has excellent road links to the A1 Motorway as the A63 passes through the village.

Although the village no longer has a train station, you have access to Selby Train Station which gives direct links to London Kings Cross in as little as 2hrs.  There are also services to York, Hull, Manchester and Leeds.  You can also hop on board to Leeds at South Milford Station.

There is also a bus service running from Selby to Leeds which stops at the Village Green.

The Green is also the focal point at Christmas with its village tree decorated and a Carol Service organised by St. Mary’s Church.

Hambleton also has The Hough, which is excellent for walks with children and dogs throughout all the seasons and is very popular with the locals.

There is a real community spirit and a lot to offer those looking to move into the area.  Especially for those needing to get out and about and meet new people.

There is no longer a Post Office, like many villages nowadays and Doctors Services are available in Selby or Monk Fryston.
